Trans & Nonbinary Student Resource Guide

Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) is dedicated to embedding and supporting diversity in every facet of the institution. Creating an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to select the first, middle, and last name that best matches their self-identification is just one of many ways MSUM is committed to creating an inclusive environment for the campus community. We see this policy as part of our core values – Heart.

  • Housing

MSUM is home to eight residence halls and one apartment complex.

    Gender Inclusive Housing
Gender Inclusive Housing is available in West and South Snarr. These facilities allow for continuing residents, women, men, and people of all gender identities and expressions to live in the same community together.

    Rainbow Dragon Learning Community
You should live in this community if you are interested in exploring your personal identity and looking to help create and support an equitable society. The Rainbow Dragon Learning Community reflects the diverse world in which we live by providing students of any major or class level opportunities to meaningfully discuss gender and sexuality. Title IX Coordinator
Acts of sexual violence are intolerable. MSUM expects all members of the campus community to act in a manner that does not infringe on the rights of others. We are committed to eliminating all acts of sexual violence. MSUM faculty and staff are concerned about the well-being and development of our students. We are obligated to share information with the MSUM Title IX Coordinator in certain situations to help ensure that the students’ safety and welfare is being addressed, consistent with the requirements of the law. These disclosures include but are not limited to reports of sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking.

    Public Safety
The MSUM Public Safety Department proudly serves thousands of students, faculty and staff members. We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all that live, work and study at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Our department has more than 30 employees who provide quality services to the MSUM community, and we are proud of our commitment to excellence in public service. We encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns about University safety and security.

    Care Team
MSU Moorhead's Campus CARE Team provides faculty, staff, and students a resource to contact if they have concerns about a student. There are many reasons why faculty, staff or students might refer a student to the CARE Team. Some of the reasons (but not all of them) include suicide ideation, depression, substance abuse, disruptive behavior in class, making violent statements, feeling threatened by a student, and concerns for a student's welfare.
