Online Learner New Student Advising & Registration
Online students that are new to MSUM will register for an individualized Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) process. This process can be done fully online and via phone to accommodate your unique needs as an online student.
When you register below, you are indicating your desire to begin the SOAR process and will be asked to log in with your Star ID and Password.
You will receive a confirmation email to your personal email account with a link to Online Orientation. You will need to complete the Online Orientation before you are contacted by a Transfer Specialist who will connect you with an advisor for course recommendations and class registration.
Students Enrolling for Spring 2026
Spring 2026 SOARs are virtual experiences
- Orientation - Your SOAR Event Confirmation email included a link to a SOAR Pre-Registration Survey. Please complete the SOAR Pre-Registration Survey to ensure a smooth advising and registration process.
- Advising - Once you have completed the SOAR Pre-Registration Survey, you will be contacted by a member of our advising team within 2-3 business days to schedule a time with you to discuss course recommendations and registration.
- If you have not heard from an advisor three business days after completing the SOAR Pre-Registration Survey, please text our First Year Programs office at 218.304.7544, and they will assist you.
- Registration - Your advisor will assist you in knowing how to register for the courses they recommend. Video tutorials on how to register for classes can also be found on the Registrar's page.
