I received my undergraduate degree in psychology at MSUM, returned for my master’s and specialist degrees in school psychology, and completed my doctorate at UND in teacher education. I spent 5 years as a school psychologist in Iowa, then returned to MSUM as a part-time instructor for psychology and education while working part-time in the Education department. I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Psychology and School Psychology programs. My interests are differentiated instruction, co-teaching, early literacy and language, strategic rhetoric, and study abroad experiences for educators.”

I received my PhD in Cognitive and Brain Sciences from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2013 and started at MSUM in 2019. I study the physiological mechanisms that underlie our visual perception. I've always been fascinated by the fact that people see the world differently. I'm most interested in how top-down processes such as memory, prior experience, language, and attention influence our perception of the world. In my visual neuroscience lab, my students and I use psychophysics and electrophysiology to explore the human visual system. Our current projects include the effects of language on color perception and bistable images; the effect of color and motion on time perception and time dilation; and the neural origins of mindfulness. I help oversee MSUM's new neuroscience minor and I teach the behavioral and cognitive neuroscience courses in the psychology department, including Intro to Neuroscience, Brain and Behavior, Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Cognitive Psych, Sensation and Perception, and Biopsychology, plus Experimental Methods.

I am a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and a graduate of MSUM. I've previously worked in school districts as a School Psychologist and Special Education Coordinator. I teach undergraduate Psychology and graduate-level School Psychology courses. My professional interests include effective early intervention services for children from birth until the age of three, developmental and sex education in schools, the use of efficient and effective screening tools and assessments in the K-12 setting, and establishing systems of efficient and impactful behavioral supports for students that can be provided within the general education environment.
