Minnesota Driver's License Information for International Students
In order to obtain a Minnesota driver’s license you must be able to verify your identity. You must provide the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) with a primary document and a secondary document.
- Your Passport, I-94 and I-20 all are counted as one primary document.
 - Bring these documents with you! You must also provide what is considered a secondary document. A Social Security Card is considered a valid secondary document; however, if you do not have a Social Security Card, the DMV has indicated that students can submit a certified post - secondary transcript with your legal name and date of birth. Because no post-secondary transcript is going to have your birth date listed on it (due to privacy laws in Minnesota),you will be able to provide the following as a valid substitute:
- An official transcript with your legal name showing your enrollment at Minnesota State University Moorhead along with a certified letter from International Student Services verifying your date of birth.

Process to obtain a driver's license:
- Order an official transcript that shows your current enrollment at MSUM. Make sure you request to include your current semester listed on the transcript.
 - Stop by International Student and Scholar Services to obtain a certified letter that verifies your date of birth.
